Several times a year, students are invited to join our Dedicated Practitioner (DP) Program. Each person choosing to become a Dedicated Practitioner formally requests to have a student/teacher relationship with our teacher. This relationship is a recognized formal commitment—to each other and to the group of DPs.
DPs participate in Practice Periods and all-day sittings. They are committed to some level of regular personal meditation, and to attending teacher-led dharma talks & coaching sessions. Coaching sessions held exclusively for DP participants occur most months. In addition, practice and personal life interviews between student and teacher are held on a regular basis.
This plan is a one-year commitment. The intent of this program is to bring our awareness of practice deeper into our minds and into our daily lives. We intend to make practice a priority, and we recognize that we live householder lives: balance is a goal. Members of the DP group work together to support each other’s practice and the zendo. DP participants make a financial pledge to the zendo (a Monetary Tithe) based on their individual circumstances. They also contribute their time and energy in managing and participating in the many tasks necessary to keep the zendo running smoothly (a Service Tithe).
DEDICATED PRACTITIONERS HAVE:
1. The opportunity to work more closely with the teacher, including regular private interviews.
2. Small group coaching sessions, and focused meditation instruction.
3. Decision-making input, power and responsibility for Everyday Dharma Zen Center.
4. Most importantly, an opportunity to practice with a deepening direction and commitment, with increased small group guidance and support, and with a committed group of people on whom they can rely as they continue this practice.
Our purpose is to bring Practice into the foreground of our awareness and our lives. Practice happens when we step into it. It’s not always easy to approach the edge of our practice—this Dedicated Practitioner Program is designed to help bring ourselves to this edge, and to enable us to strengthen our practice.
Students interested in joining the DP program should contact the Head Teacher.
